Several years back, a company named Beamdog started enhancing classic BioWare games (and games made with BioWare’s Infinity Engine but published by other companies) and re-releasing them on PC and mobile. Beamdog started with the original Baldur’s Gate in 2012, and from there it went on to remaster games like Baldur’s Gate 2 and Neverwinter Nights. Today, Beamdog announced that these enhanced games will be making the jump to consoles this year.

Fantastic PC games such as Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, and others are coming to consoles.Skybound Games has announced enhanced editions of classic Dungeons & Dragons RPGS from Beamdog will be released on consoles. This year, you can expect Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate 2, Baldur’s Gate: Siege of Dragonspear, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, and Neverwinter Nights to arrive on PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.

In a press release from Skybound, retail and digital are mentioned among the options available for purchase. This will likely be the first chance fans will have of acquiring boxed copies of these enhanced editions ports, which is good news for everyone.Skybound's CEO, Ian Howe, said, "We're excited to bring Beamdog's incredible slate to new platforms for both the dedicated fan and those who will soon discover these adventures for the first time. As longtime fans of Baldur's Gate and Dungeons & Dragons, it's fantastic to partner with Beamdog as the newest member of the Skybound family." Specific platforms and technical stats are yet to be detailed, but Switch versions would certainly be lovely thank you. These Enhanced Editions previously arrived over the past few years for PC and mobile platforms. Despite being released for decades in some cases, none of the games have made it to consoles before. It's probably about time that changed.

The news release did not give a launch date for any of the six titles, nor did it specify which consoles would be getting them. When these games do release, they’ll be sold online through Skybound’s website and at retail. Those attending PAX East 2019 in Boston (March 28-31) will be able to see a selection of Beamdog’s offerings in the Skybound Games booth. It will mark the first anniversary of Skybound Games, the video games publishing arm established last year by Skybound Entertainment, founded by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
