Sharif Finch’s college career at Temple started as a 218 pound freshman linebacker
Posted by: zhangzk - Today 10:39 AM - No Replies

Sharif Finch put on a pass rushing clinic in the middle of the Titans-Packers preseason game Harold Landry (deservedly) is getting all the hype http://www.titansfootballauthentics.com/...-authentic , but I couldn’t help but notice another rookie pass rusher on Thursday night. Four years, a position change, and multiple knee injuries later, he was a 6’-4”, 251 pound edge rusher hoping to finally break out. His final year for the Owls saw him rack up 8.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss while finally staying off the trainer’s table. Not only were the numbers good, but the tape shows a guy that had developed an impressive array of pass rush moves. He added to that a pro day where he put up an impressive 4.65-second 40 and a 7.00-second 3-cone time, but that still wasn’t enough to get drafted. He landed in Tennessee quickly after the draft as an undrafted free agent and was given the largest signing bonus of any UDFA the Titans signed. Finch made some noise in camp early before being sidelined briefly with a — you guessed it — undisclosed injury for a few days. However, he returned in time to play, and play well, in Green Bay. The sack that he picked up during the Packers first drive of the second half was the highlight Youth Delanie Walker Jersey , but after further review, Finch’s impact went much further than that. Check out this sequence of pass rushes from Finch during the last drive of the first half. Finch is #56, lined up across from Green Bay’s right tackle — and former Titan — Byron Bell. He had just entered the game to replace the injured Gimel President. Just a couple plays after entering the game, Finch buzzes around the edge with a dip and bend move — AKA “The Harold Landry” — and flushes Packers QB DeShone Kizer out of the pocket disrupting the play. Finch doesn’t quite have the flexibility of Landry — few do as Landry literally drags his inside hand over the top of the turf when he bends — but this is a pretty effective rush from Finch just plays after entering the game.NFL Game PassAfter setting Bell up by flashing the speed move around the edge, Finch comes back with an inside counter on the very next snap and catches his opponent over-setting. Kizer gets a quick pass away, but Finch is right there and finishes with a hit on Kizer. Also make sure you check out Julius Warmsley’s rush here right next to Finch. There is a reason he’s getting camp buzz.NFL Game PassAfter punishing Bell for over-setting against the speed, Finch comes back with the speed on the very next play. This time going with a club-rip combo to soften the edge against Bell and turn the corner. Again, Kizer gets the ball away, but you can see by his awkward follow through that he is affected by Finch’s rush. NFL Game PassJust a few plays later, Finch gives us the true masterpiece of this series. He catches Bell setting to far outside again and hits him with the “hump move” as made famous by Reggie White Womens Taylor Lewan Jersey , using his inside arm to essentially toss his opponent out of the way. It takes a pretty special level of strength to be able to execute this against an NFL offensive lineman (even Byron Bell). [Image: nike_titans_077.jpg]
It’s rare to see this pulled off in a game, but Finch does and finishes again in Kizer’s face as he releases.NFL Game PassA couple snaps later, Finch shows yet another pass rush move as he hits Bell with an inside spin and again winds up in Kizer’s face. NFL Game PassOn the next snap — this is all still from the same drive — Finch uses yet another move as he goes with a straight bull rush and walks Bell back in to Kizer’s feet, flushes the quarterback from the pocket, and draws a holding penalty as Bell tries to keep him from finishing the job. NFL Game PassThe first six plays above were all from the same drive at the end of the first half. Unfortunately, the coverage let Finch down a little bit during that sequence, otherwise he could have had multiple sacks there. However, Finch was rewarded during the first drive of the second half. This time Finch knifes inside of the tight end’s block on a play action pass and is there for the sack — despite getting held — when Brynden Trawick’s blitz forces Kizer to step up in the pocketNFL Game PassFinch finished his day later in that drive with one last pressure, chopping and then bending the edge against another tackle. This time the coverage forces Kizer off his first and second reads and allows Finch to close, nearly getting the sack and forcing a dangerous in to the middle of the field. NFL Game PassFrom here Womens Jurrell Casey Jersey , the Titans mostly stuck with Josh Carraway and Tobenna Okeke as the edge rushers in mop up duty. President’s unfortunate injury means that Finch now slots in as the 5th edge rusher behind Brian Orakpo, Derrick Morgan, Harold Landry, and Aaron Wallace based on the current rotations. If he’s able to hold on to that spot against Carraway, Okeke, and new additions Tony Washington and Davond Dade, that should be good enough to make the 53-man roster.I posted some of these clips on Twitter Saturday night as I was going through the tape and Finch had a pretty funny response.Obviously, Byron Bell isn’t going to be mistaken for a starting level NFL tackle these days, but the variety of pass rush moves that Finch used effectively in a game situation — and the way he set them up off each other — was very impressive. I’ll be interested to see if he gets some reps higher in the rotation to see what he can do against tougher competition. As I mentioned above, Finch has looked good in camp practices as well http://www.titansfootballauthentics.com/...-authentic , so this isn’t just a one night hot streak. His position coach, Shane Bowen, has certainly taken notice. If Finch is able to continue to play at or near this level against better players, the Titans could have a real gem on their hands. Keep an eye on 56 on Saturday night.Titans waive (injured) Gimel President; Officially announce Steven Terrell signing We told you earlier that Ian Rapoport was reporting that the Titans were signing safety Steven Terrell. The team has officially announced the signing. The good news here is that the corresponding move wasn’t putting Dane Cruikshank on IR. Instead, they have waived (injured) Gimel President and just straight up waived Johnny Maxey. They will probably come to some type of injury settlement with President. It stinks to see his season over already. He had made some plays in camp and forced an interception last night. It was going to be fun to watch him compete for the last outside linebacker spot on this roster.Maxey ends his second stint with the Titans. He was a guy that was always a long-shot to actually make the final 53-man roster. As I said above, this means that Cruikshank’s season isn’t over. That was my initial fear when it was reported that the Titans were signing a safety.

Can Cowboys pass rush continue to be disruptive against the Texans?
Posted by: zhangzk - Today 10:06 AM - No Replies

Traditionally http://www.eaglesfootballauthentics.com/...-authentic , the success of a team’s pass rush is measured in sacks. Lots of sacks = good pass rush; not a lot of sacks = bad pass rush. But a sack is not the only way to get pressure on the quarterback, and a sack is not the only way to measure pass rushing performance.Consider that good team gets about three to four sacks per game (the NFL average so far this year is 2.5 sacks per game). Yet a typical NFL game consists of about 64 defensive snaps. How can you use three to four plays in a 64-play game to make a definitive statement about the other 60-61 plays?Which is why today we’ll look at pressures as an additional metric with which to evaluate the Cowboys pass rush. But since sacks are still the pass rusher’s currency of choice, let’s start by having a look at the Cowboys’ sack totals. Over four games, the Cowboys have recorded 14 sacks, which makes them the third-best team in the league. Going by sacks alone, the Cowboys have a top pass rush, no question. But considering the limited time the ball is in the quarterback’s hands in today’s offenses, just penetrating the pocket and pressuring the QB to throw early must also be considered a success for the pass rush. So to get a better feel for the overall effectiveness of the pass rush, you’ve got to measure a defense’s overall ability to pressure the quarterback, and in addition to sacks, you need to look at QB pressures as well.Unfortunately, QB pressures aren’t tracked by the NFL’s official scorekeepers. Most teams keep their own count of QB pressures http://www.eaglesfootballauthentics.com/...-authentic , but each team uses a slightly different definition for what a pressure is, so we can’t compare the Cowboys’ stats with other teams. But we can still get a good feeling for how good this year’s pass rush is by comparing it to previous Cowboys teams. The Cowboys’ internal numbers (based on coaching film) show the 2018 defense with 42 QB pressures in addition to the 14 sacks over the first four games. Here’s how that number compares versus the last 11 seasons: Overall, in terms of sacks per game, the 2018 pass rush has the second-best number of the last 12 years, second only to the 2008 team that notched a league-high 59 sacks. If the 2018 team maintains its current sack rate, it will end up with 56 sacks this year. And that’s impressive any way you look at it. In terms of pressures, the 2018 team “only” ranks fourth among the 12 seasons ranked above. But that’s still pretty good, and an indication that the Cowboys pass rush is as good as the sack numbers suggest.By coincidence (and certainly not by design) Football Outsiders also list the Cowboys defense with 42 QB pressures. But they use a different definition of pressures than the Cowboys do, as the following table illustrates. Which just goes to show why pressures are not an official stat; everybody defines the stat differently. ESPN even introduced the newest metric just this week, “Pass Rush Win Rate”, which shows how often a pass-rusher is able to beat his block within 2.5 seconds.Be that as it may, Football Outsiders offer one advantage the Cowboys numbers don’t Womens Chris Long Jersey , which is that they apply their method to all 32 teams, thus making teams comparable. According to their numbers, the Cowboys have a pressure rate of 35.9%, which is just a pressure or two away from being the best value in the league. Here are the top five teams in terms of QB pressures rate according to Football Outsiders:LA Rams: 36.1%LA Chargers: 36.0%Dallas: 35.9%New England: 34.2%Green Bay: 33.3%Interestingly, FO have the vaunted Houston pass rushers ranked just 31st in the league with a pressure rate of merely 19.8%. Here’s how the two teams compare in terms of pressure rates on offense and defense over the last four weeks. The Cowboys O-line was named the “Offensive Line of the Week” for Week 4, but that can’t mask the fact that they had a tough time getting up to speed in their first three games of the season. [Image: nike_eagles_1987.jpg]
Cowboys fans will be hoping for a repeat of the Week 4 performance against the Lions from their O-line and D-line, just as Texans fans will hope that their O-line and D-line will finally be up to speed against the Cowboys. But with the numbers above being what they are, odds are that winning in the trenches will be the key to the outcome of the game.Eagles vs. Giants Game Preview: Five questions and answers with a divisional rival The Philadelphia Eagles (2-3) and New York Giants (1-4) are set to play each other on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium. In order to preview this critical Week 6 NFC East matchup, I reached out to our enemies over at Big Blue View. The educated Ed Valentine (@Valentine_Ed) took the time to answer my questions about the upcoming game. Let’s take a look at his answers.1 - With the Giants sitting at 1-4, how are you feeling about the early returns on the Dave Gettleman/Pat Shurmur era? To what extent do you have confidence the Giants are moving in the right direction?I like the job that Gettleman and Shurmur are doing. Shurmur talks a lot about believing the Giants are on the right path, and I think he’s absolutely correct. The Giants have a much better locker room, a better culture than they did a year ago. I think they have a better team http://www.eaglesfootballauthentics.com/...-authentic , as well, and we have seen signs of it. But, the Giants are hardly a complete team and whether or not that “right path” can lead to enough wins this year to keep them in contention I just don’t know. Given time, I think Gettleman and Shurmur can get this right. I just don’t know if that will be this season.2 - What’s your assessment of Eli Manning through the first five starts of 2018?I think this. Manning has people who love him and think he can still play well, and people who hate him and think it’s been years since he was a good quarterback. I think he’s given both sides ammunition through five games. He has had two excellent games, 25-of-29 vs. Houston and Sunday vs. Carolina. He’s completing a career-best 71.7 percent of his passes, but he’s had times where he has become “Checkdown Eli” and probably not taken some shots down the field that were available. I think he can still play well. Can he do it every week? Can he do it when things break down around him? Those are good questions, and I think we’re still finding out.3 - What is the Giants biggest strength? Where do they have the biggest edge in this game? That’s an interesting question. Offensively, their play makers should be their biggest strength and they should almost always have an edge there. But, for all sorts of reasons they haven’t always taken advantage of that group. If the offensive line does its job I will always think the Giants have an advantage with Beckham, Barkley, Sterling Shepard and — if he plays — Evan Engram.4 - What is the Giants biggest weakness? What concerns you the most about the Eagles?Offensively http://www.eaglesfootballauthentics.com/...-authentic , it’s their line. It’s been improving, but handling the Philly front is never easy. Defensively, the Giants have probably not handled the run as well as I thought they might.5 - Who wins this game and why? Score prediction? And what are your expectations for the rest of this Giants season?Oh, geez. If I give you a pick that ruins all the suspense for my pick at BBV on Thursday. Besides, I quite honestly haven’t made up my mind yet if I actually have the courage to pick the Giants to win this game. I don’t think they have proven that they deserve that kind of faith just yet. I will say this. I do believe the Giants are getting better. Maybe there was a little too much “win now” optimism for a team that went 3-13 last season. Maybe the Giants only win 6 games. Maybe things break their way and they manage to get to 8 or 9 wins. I do think, though, that if they stay reasonably healthy the Giants will be better at the end of the year than they were at the beginning.

Steelers Report Card: Grading Pittsburgh’s offense for the first quarter of 2018
Posted by: zhangzk - Today 08:36 AM - No Replies

As I’ve stated all along David DeCastro Jersey , I’m not a football coach or a teacher, but I play one in blogs and podcasts. Each week of the 2018 exhibition and regular season, I’ve graded the efforts of the Black-and-gold via “the eye test”. Grading games is an extremely difficult and somewhat thankless task. While the coaches’ grades, of course, are what count the most, the media and fans can’t help but evaluate as well. So you, the reader, get to vote as well. You even get to grade the grader in the comments section. So let’s take a look at BTSC’s perceptions of the season’s first quarter:OffenseThe Steelers’ offense is ranked tenth in the league with a 25.5-points per game (ppg) average through four contests. In 2017, they scored at a rate of 26.4 ppg. So far, Randy Fichtner’s crew has resembled both juggernaut and junk in the 2018 season. The same assessment could be made of one Benjamin Todd Roethlisberger. The league’s passing leader (1,414 yards) is averaging 353.5 yards per game. But BB has been inconsistent and, admittedly, not on the same page with everybody. His three picks were costly in the opener and a miserable second half in Baltimore helped thwart Pittsburgh’s chances. Ben’s offensive line hasn’t been reminiscent of the high-caliber unit of past years either. Injuries have hampered David DeCastro and Marcus Gilbert, while a healthy Alejandro Villanueva’s play has been chicken-pox spotty. The line just doesn’t seem to be as strong as what we’ve witnessed in recent years.Le’Veon Bell’s absence from the running game has hindered some aspects of the offense as well. While James Conner has played admirably with 232 yards on the ground Marcus Gilbert Jersey , 164 yards as a receiver, plus a penchant for picking up the blitz, he doesn’t create concern nor command extra attention in the manner No. 26 did. Conner has done well, but there’s definitely a drop-off from Le’Veon.Bell’s absence puts more attention on Antonio Brown too. Double-teaming AB has forced balls to go in other directions, mostly to JuJu Smith-Schuster. JuJu leads the team with 31 catches for 416 yards versus Antonio’s 29 for 272. [Image: nike_steelers_5051.jpg]
A disconnect between Ben and AB is apparent as well. The team also might be missing Martavis Bryant. While he’s far from tearing it up in Oakland, the deep threat he provided hasn’t yet been replicated. The TE duo of Jesse James (228 yards on 10 catches) and Vance McDonald (200 yards on 12 catches) has been very solid. As a duo, they’ve got a combined 22 grabs on 27 targets and their yards-after-catch have been remarkable — a combined 210. Jesse is ranked 29th in the league, while Vance registers at 25th.Overall Offense Grade: CDespite gaudy stats, less-than-desirable offensive efforts prevented the Steelers from winning in Week 1 and Week 4. A greater output will be needed this season to make up for the defensive foibles.Offensive Valedictorian: JuJu Smith-SchusterSteelers place safety Nat Berhe on injured reserve, promote Brian Allen from practice squad The Pittsburgh Steelers secondary is a work in progress, and it continues to evolve throughout the course of the 2018 regular season. Sometimes a change is made due to performance on the field, and other times injuries can impact the depth chart. This is the case for offeseason free agent acquisition Nat Berhe, who was placed on Injured Reserve (IR) Tuesday after injuring his pectoral muscle in the Steelers’ Sunday night loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4.With Berhe heading to IR, the Steelers promoted cornerback Brian Allen to the active roster.Allen spent his entire rookie season on the active roster in 2017 Cheap Terrell Edmunds Jersey , although often a gameday inactive, but was released at the end of training camp only to be re-signed to the practice squad days later. The Steelers’ secondary now has a different feel to it. Morgan Burnett is often injured, Mike Hilton is working his way back from injury, and Coty Sensabaugh and Artie Burns are having a battle at the outside linebacker position opposite Joe Haden. Berhe, who is a safety, played primarily special teams, but had been thrust into the lineup with the absence of Burnett. It should be noted how the Steelers didn’t promote rookie Marcus Allen, a safety, but chose Allen instead. Allen does have great size and speed for the cornerback position, but has always been considered extremely raw and inexperienced.Stay tuned to BTSC for the latest on this situation, and others surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Minnesota Vikings went to the Meadowlands
Posted by: huangjian123 - Yesterday 01:54 PM - No Replies

Sunday to hand the New York Jets a 37-17 loss Authentic Matt Wile Jersey , and extend the win streak to three. The defense was stout, the offense got the job done and the Vikings are now where the team belongs. At the top of the NFC North. Here’s this week’s three takeaways from the Jets’ game:Latavius Murray deserves the starting role in the backfieldDalvin Cook must earn his starting job back when he returns to 100 percent. Why plug him in right away when you have a trusted workhorse in Murray? Also, to me, Murray has earned the starting spot after his past couple of performances. He’s made his presence known over the past two weeks. Murray managed to rush for 155 yards off 24 carries against the Arizona Cardinals. He also scored the first rushing touchdown of the season for Minnesota. The touchdown streak continued at MetLife Stadium where Murray scored two rushing touchdowns. He finished the game with 64 yards off 15 carries. Cook has not participated in the last three games with a hamstring injury. When he was playing, he wasn’t very productive in the run game. In the three games he’s played in, he’s recorded 98 yards off 36 carries. However, Cook’s been productive in the passing game. He’s caught nine passes for 107 yards. Cook was only targeted two out of the three games. Cook could be a solid third down back until deemed worthy of the starting spot. Defense still put the clamps on (even with injuries)After a couple weeks of worry, and a couple weeks of promise, I think it’s fair to say Minnesota’s defense will be alright (for now). On Sunday, the defense played without Everson Griffen (again), Linval Joseph and Andrew Sendejo. Unfortunately, Xavier Rhodes went down with what head coach Mike Zimmer said was a sprained ankle after Sunday’s game. But, the backups stepped up big and stepped into the shoes that needed to be filled. David Parry, Tom Johnson and Jaleel Johnson all were in rotation to fill Joseph’s absence. The Jets were only able to rush for 71 yards off 24 carries, or about three yards per carry. Stephen Weatherly has been playing well in place of Griffen Authentic Mike Remmers Jersey , he even had a nice pass break up. Holton Hill grabbed an interception after Xavier Rhodes went down with an ankle injury. Seeing all of these guys play their role is fun to watch. With a healthy roster, the defense will no doubt be full and complete. Adam Thielen is currently the best wideout in the NFLHe’s first in the league for targets, receptions and catches. He’s caught 67 of 89 passes for 822 yards and five touchdowns. It's not like Thielen’s the only reliable receiver on the team neither, or Cousins’ only target. There are so many talented players on the offense who can catch the ball. Stefon Diggs, Kyle Rudolph and Aldrich Robinson just to name a few. Diggs is fourth in the league for receptions with 48, only 19 less catches than Thielen. Thielen’s on pace for a career-high season. If he continues playing how he is, then he’ll be on track to at least a 1,900 yard season. He’s on the road to break Randy Moss’ single-season record for most receiving yards. Moss’ record came in 2003 when he had recorded 1,632 receiving yards off 111 catches. The guy grew up idolizing, and mimicking the plays of Moss and Cris Carter, this was always a dream for his. He watched two of the greats play, and he wanted to be just like them, well he certainly is looking like them, especially when he’s being talked about in the same category as the two.Vikings vs. Seahawks Preseason 2018: Five Game-Changing Plays The Minnesota Vikings won the All-Important Third Preseason Game庐 by narrowly dispatching the Seattle Seahawks 21-20 on Friday night. Kirk Cousins threw for 182 yards in one half of action, Dalvin Cook played for the first time in over ten months http://www.minnesotavikingsteamonline.co...lph-jersey , and the defense had plenty of impressive performances throughout the night. All is well heading into the 2018 regular season! We’ll see you in February in Atlanta!Sorry, forgot to use my sarcasm font there. While there were plenty of bright spots to celebrate for the Vikings, there are still major concerns looming less than two weeks before the season opener against the 49ers. The piecemeal offensive line is still struggling to find the best five-man combination, including trading with the New York Giants for Brett Jones on Sunday. The kicking game is already conjuring up the specters of Gary Anderson and Blair Walsh. The punt coverage team can’t stop allowing huge returns (even if some of them get called back). Valhalla is not Utopia just yet.Let’s go through some of the ups and downs from Friday night with our weekly review of the five most impactful plays of the game.Play 1: Vikings ball, 1st & 10 at the Seattle 37. First quarter, 1:43 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins pass deep right to S.Diggs pushed ob at SEA 10 for 27 yards (SL.Griffin).On the previous drive, Cousins threw to Stefon Diggs deep down the right side as he was being covered by Shaquill Griffin. The ball was a bit under-thrown, Griffin was in excellent defensive position, and the ball fell incomplete. The Vikings were forced to settle for a field goal attempt. (More on that “attempt” stuff later.) This time around, the ball was placed behind Diggs on purpose as a back shoulder throw down the right sideline. What Diggs did to Griffin on this play is almost unfair. In case you weren’t sufficiently impressed the first time around, look at the isolated replay:That is just filthy. Diggs certainly appears to be Cousins’ favorite target since the quarterback arrived in Minnesota. If things break right, these two could have a special season together.Play 2: Seahawks ball, 1st & 10 at the Minnesota 23. Second quarter, 9:06 remaining. (9:06) M.Davis left end to MIN 26 for -3 yards (D.Hunter).Speaking of someone that may be poised to have a special season, I present Danielle Hunter.Duane Brown might be the only redeemable member of the Seahawks offensive line. Hunter simply discarded him and coasted to an easy tackle for loss. The 23-year-old defensive end has been making splash plays throughout the preseason. If Hunter can keep blowing up plays in the backfield like this http://www.minnesotavikingsteamonline.co...fen-jersey , that new contract of his is going to look like larceny in a couple years.Play 3a: Vikings ball, 2nd & 7 at the Minnesota 46. Second quarter, 1:02 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins pass incomplete deep right to A.Thielen.Play 3b: Vikings ball, 3rd & 7 at the Minnesota 46. Second quarter, 0:57 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Cousins pass short right to L.Treadwell ran ob at SEA 27 for 27 yards (M.Alexander).I’m cheating a bit with this one by showing two back-to-back plays that help illustrate the up-and-down nature of Friday’s game. First, Cousins badly misses Adam Thielen during the two-minute drill.Thielen caught his first four passes of the preseason for 26 yards on Friday, but this missed opportunity was indicative of how Thielen and Cousins don’t seem to be completely simpatico yet. (You can throw Kyle Rudolph into that mix as well.) It also illustrates how the Vikings offense has had its struggles in these situations throughout camp. The next play was much more encouraging.Laquon Treadwell had three catches for 44 yards to compliment his breakout performance at Training Camp. This might sound blasphemous, but it appears that Cousins currently has a better rapport with Treadwell than Thielen or Rudolph. Does that mean Treadwell will end up with better numbers than the other two? I seriously doubt it. But Cousins does have a propensity to spread the ball around and Treadwell has been stepping up when called upon this year. Perhaps the former first round pick will finally start living up to some of the expectations.Play 4: Vikings ball, 4th & 7 at the Seattle 24. Second quarter, 0:31 remaining. D.Carlson 42 yard field goal is No Good, Wide Left, Center-K.McDermott, Holder-R.Quigley.Daniel Carlson handled his first game as the only kicker on the Vikings roster about as well as Kevin Malone handled bringing in his famous chili in The Office. After pulling his first field goal attempt from 42 yards wide left earlier in the game, Carlson put on an encore performance right before halftime. This is NOT how to ingratiate yourself to a fan base that has endured enough soul-crushing missed kicks for 100 lifetimes. Please, Daniel Womens Rashod Hill Jersey , don’t do this to us when the games actually count.Play 5: Vikings ball, 4th & 15 at the Seattle 25. Fourth quarter, 0:54 remaining. (Shotgun) K.Sloter pass deep left to C.Beebe for 25 yards, TOUCHDOWN.As if we could finish with any play other than this one.Sure, it didn’t really mean anything. But scoring the game-winning touchdown (thanks to the ensuing 2-point conversion by Jake Wieneke) on 4th & long in the final minute of an NFL football game is awesome no matter what the stakes are. Kyle Sloter is still behind Trevor Siemian on the quarterback depth chart according to Mike Zimmer. There was no doubt that Sloter was the better quarterback on Friday. Moments after getting walloped by Erik Walden the play before, Sloter bought time with his legs and found Chad Beebe for a finish that was about as exciting as you can get in the preseason.Beebe has had an amazing preseason as well. With players like Kendall Wright, Cayleb Jones, Tavarres King, and Brandon Zylstra being largely anonymous for most of the past few weeks, Beebe just might have a chance to sneak onto the roster. So which play was the biggest of the game in your mind? Vote in the poll below and add any suggestions that we didn’t cover today in the comments.

Jalen Ramsey won’t be a part of the Vikings/Jaguars joint practices When the Minnesot

Xjoint practices When the Minnesota Vikings and the Jacksonville Jaguars get together in Eagan this week for their joint practice session http://www.vikingscheapshops.com/cheap-a...nes-jersey , a couple of key pieces of Jacksonville’s outstanding defense will not be along for the trip. As a result, things on the practice field might be a little bit quieter than they might have been otherwise.According to our friends at Big Cat Country, the Jaguars have suspended cornerback Jalen Ramsey and defensive end Dante Fowler for a week. The genesis of this whole thing appears to be a fight that happened at Jaguars practice on Sunday. Fowler apparently shoved tight end James O’Shaughnessy after he was out of bounds following a reception. After the initial fight, practice concluded and the players made their way off the field, during which Yannick Ngakoue went after Fowler as well. All of this was being recorded by Phillip Heilman of the Florida Times-Union, which Ramsey took exception to, imploring Heilman to stop recording the fracas. Following practice, Ramsey also went after Heilman on social media. After all of this, the team announced that both Fowler and Ramsey were going to be suspended for this week’s joint practices with the Vikings, as well as Saturday afternoon’s preseason contest at U.S. Bank Stadium between the two teams.Ramsey was the fifth overall pick by the Jaguars in the 2016 NFL Draft, and he’s quickly become one of the premiere defensive backs in the NFL. It’s a shame that we won’t get to see him matching up with Stefon Diggs or Adam Thielen this week, but that’s just how it goes, I guess.Fowler was the third overall pick for the Jaguars in 2015, but missed all of his rookie season with a torn ACL.Check out Big Cat Country for more about this story from the Jaguars perspective. After a shaky start that had fans concerned, the Minnesota Vikings seem to have found a small groove with a modest two game winning streak. Yet after six games and a 3-2-1 record, I’m still not sure what to make of this team. Hall of Fame coach (and Mike Zimmer mentor) Bill Parcells has famously said ‘you are what your record says you are’, and that usually gets to the heart of the matter for most teams in the NFL.For the Vikings this year, I don’t know if that phrase applies yet or not. I mean it does, but it kinda doesn’t, because they have been as schizophrenic a team as there is in the NFL so far in 2018. They beat the defending Super Bowl champion on the road, but lost to a bad Bills team with a bad rookie QB at home. They vomit up yards and points on defense against Buffalo Cheap Mike Hughes Jersey , Green Bay and Los Angeles, but they pretty much shut down the Eagles, Cardinals, and 49ers. So how they play Sunday against the Jets should give us an idea of what we’re dealing with from here on out.‘But Ted’, you say, ‘it’s just the Jets. How is this the barometer to determine how the season will turn out?’Maybe ‘do or die’ from the title is a bit dramatic of a phrase, as there’s plenty of football left after the Jets game, win or lose. And if you believe 538’s projections, the Vikings have a 57% chance to make the playoffs right now, and a 43% chance to win the division. So things are probably a little better than I personally think they are.Yet...this is a game that historically has been a tough one for the Vikings to overcome—outside, on the road, and it’s against an opponent they’ve never beaten as the visiting team. Ever, in franchise history. A loss here doesn’t doom the season, but it more than likely confirms that the Vikings as a serious Super Bowl contender are probably gone with the wind, barring a dramatic turnaround.Yes, yes, I know what happened in the 1980’s or whatever doesn’t apply to today, and under Mike Zimmer the Vikings have really slayed a lot of the underachieving demons this team was generally known for, like winning outside on the road, for example.Even though the Vikings were 6-2 as they headed to the bye last year, we really weren’t sure what to make of them yet.Well Cheap Dalvin Cook Jersey , at least I wasn’t quite sure. They had defeated one good team (New Orleans), lost to another (PIttsburgh), and had beaten a slew of mediocre to bad teams (the Green Bay win was the famous ‘Rodgers walks into A Barr game, and Brett Hundley took over). They were working with a backfield by committee and essentially a third string QB as well, so the vibe that team was giving off was a little different than the one the 2018 team currently has.But the game that made me think Minnesota had something going last year was their first game out of the bye, against, ironically enough, the Kirk Cousins-led Washington Redskins. At the time the ‘Skins were 4-4, playing at home, and very much in the discussion for a playoff spot. Minnesota’s historical performance in Washington is really up (Toby Gerhart goes HAM after AP had his knee shredded game in 2011) and down (Robert Griffith III is still running from 2012, Sam Bradford keeps getting sacked on the final drive from 2016). The Vikings took it to Washington early, opening up a 35-17 lead, and then managed to hold on as turnovers made the game closer than it should have. The Vikings managed to fight through that second half adversity, went on a game clinching drive in the fourth quarter, and won a big game.Sunday’s game has a similar feel for me. The Jets are 3-3, and rookie QB Sam Darnold looks like he’s a legit NFL starter so far. They’re holding their own in the AFC New England Division, and a win really gives them momentum heading into two big road games against the Bears and Dolphins.A convincing win by the Vikings and I think Minnesota is firmly back from the early season ups and downs, and will be riding a three game winning streak as they go home to face New Orleans and Detroit before their bye week.A loss? 3-3-1 probably means they’ll need to go 7-2 to get to 10-5-1 and assure themselves of a playoff spot and a home wildcard game. Would you have faith a 3-3-1 team with losses to two rookie QB’s could win seven of their last nine?I’m not sure I do.

Don't Sleep on Vikings OL Josh Andrews
Posted by: huangjian123 - Yesterday 01:36 PM - No Replies

When Josh Andrews was picked up by the Vikings during the off-season Authentic Mike Hughes Jersey , there wasn’t much fanfare. Great- a second-rate, backup, practice squad, free-agent offensive lineman - big deal.Andrews came from Philadelphia, so presumably new Vikings offense coordinator John DeFilippo must have liked what he saw in Andrews while he was there.Andrews, 27, was a backup center/guard in Philadelphia during his four years there - half of which were spent on the practice squad - including last season. All that doesn’t suggest much - on and off practice squad, only played in a couple games, never won a starting job.The big hurdle for Andrews was that he was playing behind Jason Kelce, who went to two Pro-Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro in three of Andrews’ four years with the Eagles. At left guard, where Andrews played at Oregon State, there was less formidable competition after Evan Mathis left, but Allen Barbre and Stefan Wisniewski were the preferred veterans and played well for Eagles. That left Andrews with a Super Bowl ring but not much of a starting opportunity in Philly.Minnesota, by contrast, is the land of opportunity when it comes to the offensive line.I’m not sure how many offensive linemen have started for the Vikings over the past few years - but I’m gonna guess more than 20.And with Nick Easton on IR and Pat Elflein on the PUP list, a guy who can play both guard and center should have a decent opportunity.Especially as the only guy with any substantial playing experience vying for the left guard position is Tom Compton. So What Does Josh Andrews Bring to the Table?Andrews is 6’2”, 311 lbs. and as you can see a little from the picture, built like a tank - but also good athleticism.Against Denver Andrews played 40 snaps at center and 7 at left guard (at end of game) and was the highest graded offensive linemen for the Vikings according to Pro Football Focus (PFF).His grade for the Denver game is very representative of his career pre-season grade - low 80s (good) in pass protection and low-mid 70s (average) in run blocking. From what I can infer, his run blocking grade at left guard is a little better than at center over his career. Those grades are very competitive compared to his competition at left guard and center.Andrews also did well enough in preseason to beat out a former 3rd round pick for a roster spot in 2015.Andrews himself was undrafted in 2014.So, the Vikings and new OL coaches Andrew Janocko and Clancy Barone have something to work with in Josh Andrews, who showed well against the Broncos. It may be worthwhile for the Vikings to give Andrews some first/second team reps at left guard against the Jaguars - both in practices and in the pre-season game - to see how he does there before taking over at center for Edison.Vikings’ NFC North Rivals: News and Notes Cutdown week has come and gone.Teams have finalized their rosters, and players can finally breathe a sigh of relief - they’re either playing football or looking for a new job.The NFC North was a whirlwind of activity this past week - and almost none of it had to do with action on the field of play. The intrigue happened mostly in the front offices.Aaron Rodgers signed a monstrosity of a backloaded deal that will keep him in Green Bay for at least a few years. And the Bears weren’t about to be outdone, getting a deal done with the Oakland Raiders for former Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack. The Detroit Lions, meanwhile, signed versatile safety Quandre Diggs (No Relation) to a ho-hum three year, 20.4 million dollar contract.I say ho-hum not because it’s an insignificant amount, but because all of a sudden, twenty million dollars just seems fairly pedestrian these days. Why, oh why, couldn’t I have been born athletic instead of good-looking, charming and talented?Chicago BearsSkipping over the Khalil Mack deal momentarily, the Bears roster moves went off largely as predicted. No real unexpected names, and really no “let’s jump at the chance to sign this guy” moments, either. As far as the depth chart is concerned, the only real surprise that I see is the fact that rookie James Daniels is listed as the sole backup at all three interior O-Line positions Womens Adam Thielen Jersey , and the Bears kept only seven O-Linemen.For a team with so much invested in their QBOTF, Mitchell Trubisky, that just seems like a pretty big risk.On the defensive side of the ball, the addition of Mack really does add quite a bit of punch.Vic Fangio is no dummy, and now he has players that fit his needs all over the field.I’d give the Bears a very solid second place in the NFCN as far as defenses go, behind only the Vikings. Now, on to the Mack signing. The Bears gave up first round picks in 2019 and 2020 in order to get Mack, then had to turn around and sign him to a six year, $141 million contract, with $90 million of that guaranteed. This season, however, will be played under his fifth year option, paying him “only” $13.8 million (see, there’s that whole ho-hum feeling again!).What folks in Chicago don’t seem to want to talk about is the fact that, according to the folks at Over The Cap, there’s a strong possibility that Mack never sees the end of this contract. The last three years’ dead money goes from 6.8 million, to zero, to zero again. And Mack, who will be 33 years old at the end of the deal, will have a cap hit of 24, 22, and 23 million dollars those last three years. The deal seems to be making Bears fans happy, and I certainly get it.But for a team that seems to be a couple years away from contending, it seems like they’re going all in right now.The Bears open their season on Sunday Night Football in Green Bay.Not-afraid-to-make-a-prediction Prediction: Green Bay wins the game, Ridgers throws three TD passes, and the universe goes bananas because Rodgers is “back”.Detroit LionsThe Lions - who can already boast a pretty impressive starting offensive line of Taylor Decker, TJ Lang, Graham Glasgow, Frank Ragnow, and Ricky Wagner - ended up keeping 10 (ten!) offensive linemen, including Joe Dahl (who I mentioned in last week’s recap).Considering the Bears, Vikings, and Packers all have needs along the offensive line in one form or another, that almost seems like a defensive move.Lions Twitter got all riled up about Khalil Mack, as well.Local Radio host Dan Leach dug deep into his sources to try and break a story that Khalil Mack was heading to Detroit.Leach was definitely out to lunch on this one Authentic Riley Reiff Jersey , but may have earned himself fourteen and a half years worth of free sandwiches, so there may be some consolation for him.The Lions open their season in a Monday Night must-see TV matchup, hosting the New York Jets.Not-afraid-to-make-a-prediction Prediction:The Lions win this one handily, as the Jets turn the ball over several times, and the New York media begins calling for Sam Darnold’s head on a platter.Green Bay PackersOK, I know he didn’t actually wear that outfit to the signing. But, seriously.Ughh... he’s just... such a...Oh, by the way, the Packers signed Aaron Rodgers to a new, 134 million dollar deal, with $78 Million of that guaranteed. It’s a pretty team-friendly deal, too - assuming Rodgers can be healthy and productive until he’s 40 years old.And he will, because鈥?Packers. The Packers will be on the hook for a total of $103 million in Cap space or, perhaps, $68 million in dead money in the years Rodgers turns 37, 38, and 39 years old.I guess that’s a plus for the rest of the division. On cutdown day, the team released - with an injury settlement - veteran defensive back - and fan NOTfavorite - Quinten Rollins.Rollins had slowly fallen out of favor with Packer fans since being drafted in the second round in 2015.The only player from the 2015 Packers draft class who will be on the roster to start the season is wide receiver-turned-running back Ty Montgomery, who is listed second behind starter Jamaal Williams, who is starting in place of the suspended Aaron Jones.Another player during camp that moved the needle for Packer fans - but this time in a good way - was Wide Receiver Jake Kumerow.Kumerow, dubbed ‘The Great Whitewater Hope’ has bounced around the league for a couple of years, landing on Cincinnati’s, New England’s, and Green Bay’s practice squads. In fact, there’s a pretty incredible story about him, which can be found here, that I truly encourage you to check out (no sarcasm font neccesary. It really is a good read).Yes, UW-Whitewater is in Packerland, so that kind of makes Kumerow a “local” to Packers fans, but his story is much more than that..Unfortunately, Kumerow was placed on IR-Designated to Return, which means there’s no hope (Whitewater, or otherwise) of seeing him until week 8 at the earliest. As stated above, the Packers open their season at Lambeau on Sunday night versus the Chicago Bears.Not-afraid-to-make-a-prediction Prediction:The Pack will win (see above).

The New Orleans Saints have a 4-1 record
Posted by: huangjian123 - Yesterday 10:47 AM - No Replies

in part due to a defensive performance that has improved with each week after a awful start. They return to action this Sunday after a bye http://www.thesaintsfootballauthentic.co...-authentic , faced with the task of taking on the AFC North leading Baltimore Ravens (4-2) on the road. Despite more impressive results on the defensive side of the ball in the last two games, Saints opponents have still averaged 28 points and 369 yards per game, hovering around the bottom of the league. Baltimore has averaged nearly 26 points per game, and lines up with a passing attack looking to strike down the field. Let's see how the New Orleans defense, riding a wave of momentum, will match up against a veteran Ravens offense. SAINTS PASS DEFENSE vs. RAVENS PASS OFFENSE Photo by Rob Carr/Getty ImagesThe Saints have had an effective pass defense over their last two games, putting consistent pressure on the passer and preventing big plays, something that plagued them over the first three games. The team still ranks just 30th in passing yards surrendered, giving up 298 yards per game, but have actually allowed only Tampa Bay's Ryan Fitzpatrick (417 yds) and Atlanta's Matt Ryan (374) to eclipse the 300-yd. barrier. The New Orleans defensive line has been able to apply good pressure in recent weeks, and have collected 3 quarterback sacks in each of the last four games. Cameron Jordan is having another All-Pro season, and continues to beat his blockers with either power, speed, or finesse. He leads the team with 5 sacks, and is one of the most underrated defensive players in the league. Marcus Davenport is showing why the team traded up to take him with the 14th overall selection in last spring's draft. He has two sacks thus far, and is second only to Jordan on the team in quarterback pressures. Davenport is becoming an overwhelming force with a rare blend of athleticism and strength, and looks to have just scratched the surface of his vast potential. Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins has been dominant at times this season as well. He also has 2 sacks, but has become had an impactful presence in nearly every game, consistently disrupting the opposing pass pocket. Demario Davis was already known to be an outstanding run defender when acquired as a free agent this offseason. Davis has also proven to be a devastating blitzer http://www.thesaintsfootballauthentic.co...-authentic , his two sacks tying with Davenport and Rankins for second on the team, and has played very well in pass coverage. Fellow linebackers A.J. Klein, Alex Anzalone, and Craig Robertson have complimented Davis well, and the Saints are no longer as vulnerable to running backs coming out of the backfield in the passing game as a result. The Saints have just 2 interceptions so far this year, after 20 a season ago. Second year cornerback Marshon Lattimore is again playing at a pro bowl level after a slow start, and free safety Marcus Williams is also beginning to play at a high level again. Another standout performer over the last two games is safety Vonn Bell, who has played extremely well after a poor start. All eyes continue to be on cornerbacks Ken Crawley and P.J. Williams, who are considered to be the weakest points of the defense. Both players have played better, but were beaten deep repeatedly over the first three games. Photo by Frederick Breedon/Getty ImagesBaltimore will attack the Saints defense with the league's 9th ranked passing attack, averaging 294 yards per game. Quarterback Joe Flacco (1,788 yards, 9 td, 4 int.) is having a good bounce back year after 2017 struggles. The Ravens armed their 11th year signal caller with an entirely new receiving corps over the offseason. Veteran wideout Michael Crabtree is Flacco's favorite target, and has 30 catches for a 343 yards and two scores. Former Saint Willie Snead is enjoying a bounceback year of his own after a lousy '17 campaign with New Orleans. Snead is tied with Crabtree for the reception lead, going for 313 yards and a touchdown. Speedster John Brown is the type of deep threat that has caused the strong-armed Flacco to thrive earlier in his career, and precisely the type of receiver that gave the Saints secondary nightmares early in the season. Brown has caught just 21 of his 47 targets, but they've gone for a team-high 424 yards and 3 touchdowns. Baltimore running back Javorius "Buck" Allen gives the team a solid receiving threat out of the backfield. Allen has 24 catches and 149 yards through the air. The Ravens have a four-headed tight end threat that is as individually talented as almost any in the league. Mark Andrews, Hayden Hurst http://www.thesaintsfootballauthentic.co...-authentic , Maxx Williams, and Nick Boyle have combined for 40 receptions and 410 yards, and all are capable of making big plays down the field as well as moving the chains on intermediate routes. Hurst, the first of the team's two 1st round picks this past spring, missed the first part of the year with a foot injury, but fellow rookie Andrews (3rd round) has made an immediate impact. Flacco has been sacked 11 times this year, but is a stationary passer within the pocket. Baltimore's line will be shorthanded, after losing guard Alex Lewis to a neck injury, perhaps creating an interior protection issue for their quarterback. Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty Images~ Matchup to Watch: Safeties Marcus Williams and Vonn Bell vs. Ravens WR's/TE's ~Given New Orleans' early season struggles against the deep ball, facing a gamebreaking threat like Brown could net terrifying results. The communication on the back end has been far better in recent weeks, but the Saints safeties will be seriously tested during this game. Lattimore's man to man skills are more likely going to be used most often on Crabtree or perhaps even Snead, leaving Flacco's favorite long ball target in the hands of Crawley or P.J. Williams. Bell and Marcus Williams will each need to be at the top of their game to prevent momentum changing strikes down the field, but must also limit the effectiveness of the Ravens talented tight ends. SAINTS RUN DEFENSE vs. RAVENS RUN OFFENSE Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY SportsIt's gone largely unnoticed because of early season struggles against the pass, but New Orleans has had the NFL's best run defense for a number of weeks. The Saints rank 3rd in rushing yards surrendered, giving up only 72 yards per game, and opposing rushers are averaging only 3.1 yards per carry, tops in the NFL. New Orleans defensive tackles Rankins, Tyeler Davison, and undrafted rookie Taylor Stallworth have obliterated opposing interior lines at times Womens Alvin Kamara Jersey , all but eliminating inside rushes. Stallworth will likely miss a few weeks with an ankle injury, but the team re-signed Jay Bromley to team with David Onyemata to provide solid depth inside. Cam Jordan is as good a run defender as any edge player in the league, and Davenport has worked into an every down player due to his solid play against the run. Alex Okafor gives the team outstanding depth along the edge, and the Saints don't miss a beat when he's in the lineup. The performance of the defensive line has allowed the New Orleans linebackers to flow freely and aggressively to the ball. Demario Davis and A.J. Klein in particular are shutting down the run quickly, often making hits in the backfield. The rush defense gets an added boost this week with the expected return from injury of Manti Te'o, who has missed the last three games. The team's secondary has done an exemplary job of run support, able to snuff out runners quickly if they do get into the open. Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty ImagesBaltimore averages just 99 yards per game on the ground, and have managed only 3.4 yards per carry. Alex Collins is the team's primary back, and has 76 carries for 271 yards, but has scored 4 times on the ground. Buck Allen has added 3 rushing touchdowns, but has only rushed for 97 yards and 2.8 yards per carry. Baltimore's second of their two 1st round picks last April, quarterback Lamar Jackson, adds athleticism to the running game in short yardage packages and has averaged 5.5 yards per carry. Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports~ Players to Watch: Demario Davis/A.J. Klein ~Davis and Klein are the leaders of an improved Saints linebacking unit that has made some key plays at crucial moments. The onus will be on this group to shut down what has been a subpar Baltimore rushing attack, making the Ravens one dimensional. The linebackers must also be able to take on coverage responsibilities. Not just on Allen coming out of the backfield, but even more importantly against the dangerous Baltimore tight ends, which would allow the Saints safeties to guard against the deep strike from Flacco to his wideouts.WHAT TO LOOK FOR:Chuck Cook-USA TODAY SportsThe Ravens have the second most pass attempts in the league, and have a deep group of targets that are capable of making big plays.
